Bulgaria celebrates on March 3rd the country's National Holiday, marking the 133rd anniversary of its Liberation from five centuries of Ottoman dominance.

To Leicester and back

Of our trip to England the serenity and the hospitality of our hosts left the most clear memory in me. They are very polite, helpful and friendly people. They helped us get to know their school, city and a part of their country, They welcomed us with open hearts and this made me very glad.
Two children with big smiles showed us their school, “Sacred Heart”. The school has children from three to eleven. They go to school from Monday to Friday. During this time they have classes: math, English, sports, French and others. In the school are invested a lot of money. There are a lot of computers, new playground and two new classrooms.
After the tour we went in a hall together with our partners in the project from Spain, Italy, England, Slovakia, Turkey and Poland. There, each country was introduced. Together we form a group of 24 teachers and 24 students
Our hosts had organized celebrations which we could communicate which I think was the most important. These celebrations included lunches, dinners, a disco party and last but not least a tea party.
The organizers showed us the history of their city, Leicester, for a day.
The city is famous for the first BBC radio.
In the city have found buildings left by the Romans.
Before the city was surrounded of the fortress wall and the city was entered through four gates: eastern, western, northern and southern.
The gates were connected by two main shopping streets.
Nowadays of the old there are only stones marking the place where the main roads have crossed.
On one of the days we spent in England, we tried to look at York. In the city there are ruins from the time of the Romans. Most buildings of that period were destroyed and in their place were built new, it have been used the foundations of ruined buildings. One of the most famous buildings is York Minster. This is a cathedral in Gothic style.
The Cathedral has been burnt down four times, the last was 26 years ago.
The main shopping street in York is Shambles street.

London is the capital of England and the United Kingdom, It is the biggest urban zone in the European Union. London has founded by the Romans
Along with New York, Paris and Tokyo, London is considered one of the four most important global cities. London's population is about 7,556,900 people.
London has many green areas so it is often called “Green City”. The biggest parks are adjacent to each other royal parks, Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park with Green Park, which are in the center of the city and Regents Park, which is located north. Not far away is Baker street- the place where the mythical hero, Sherlock Holmes, has lived. Nowadays there is a museum dedicated to the character from the popular series,
London includes 32 regions. Inner London includes 12 of them and Outer London consists of the other 20 regions. The region, which is the most famous part of the city and is filled with many monuments , is called Westminster.
It is the historical part of the city. Is has built around Westminster Abbey, which is called St Peter, where there were most coronations, christenings and weddings of the royal family since 1066.It is one of the most famous buildings in the city. It is a Gothic cathedral.
In this area are: Buckingham Palace, the Royal Court, Westminster Palace and Big Ben. It is where most of the history of England Is collected in one place.

A man once said that to remember something you need no photographs or pictures, you need your heart and soul.
During my trip to England I understood what that meant because during the trip I saw a lot of incredible things that fascinated me so much that I couldn't even get my camera out to do a picture because that meant that I would have to take my eyes of that thing.
Now I am kind of sad about that because I can't show my siblings the incredible stuff I saw. And they might never really know how interesting and fun the game of skittles was or the incredibly beautiful green fields of grass that we saw while we were driving from the airport to London. Or how amazing London, Leicester and York are when you see them through the eyes of an ordinary person. But I hope that one day I can visit England again maybe with them so they can see what I've seen ,experience what I’ve experienced and feel what I’ve felt. Until then I will do my best to tell and show them through words and pictures.
In conclusion I would like to wish to everyone that hasn’t been to England to go and to see all of this and to experience how truly amazing this county is for himself.

Our School (“Ivan Vazov” A Secondary School of Mathemathics and Natural Sciences) is participating in an European project with 6 more countries ( Italy, Spain, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey and the UK ) . This month we visited The UK with the groups of the other countries and the whole point was to exchange expierence between the different cultures and meet different people.
When we got in London, a lot of things made me good impression.The English people are really nice and polite. They`ll stop and wait near you if you`re making some photos, then they`ll smile and move on. If they push you they`ll excuse you in the minute. In England there are typical British cities with only British inhabitants and other cities and towns in which there are people from all over the world.
We’ve also visited some schools in Leicester (the city, which we stayed in for 4 days) –Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School and Bridge Primary School. When we left the schools my impression was that the schools in England are may be the best for children. Everyone there get the necessary attention, for the children there are special rooms like the quiet room (a place for anyone who wants to have rest and feel better) , a play room where the youngest kids are doing a lot of different and interesting for everyone things. There`s also a place with pictures of the pope, where the children go and pray whenever they want. At St. Paul’s School the students were 16, they studied on laptops and they`ve painted the school by themselves which was great. But the schools are just a part of the great things in the UK.
The spirit of England is just unique. It has been preserved in the magnificent buildings, streets, nature and in the British people, too.
My point, personally, was to see how do the people live there , what do they appreciate, how do they behave with others , especially foreigners. I`ve talked with a few people there, someone may say that it wasn`t enough for exchanging experience but for me it was. I just wanted to see the country in which I’ve wanted to study and live for already a year. Exchanging experience really helps but it`s not just and only that. It`s more important to visit the country , so you could see if you can manage to adapt to a different “world”.Visiting different places, watching the busy daily round of the people , it`s an easy way to imagine yourself in such a picture .And Britain is one of the most suitable places for studying and working. Much more possibilities for your future, lovely and beautiful nature, fascinating history, and respect and understanding between people because they live easily.

Hello, my name is Nikolay. I’m from Dobrich, Bulgaria and I’m going to write about my visit in the UK last week.
We arrived in London at around 1pm and as there was some time left until we had to take the bus to Leicester we decided to go sightseeing. After only a few hours later we were amazed by the incredible architecture of the city. It was simply magnificent. We saw so many historically important and beautiful buildings that it was just breathtaking.
On the next day when we were already in Leicester we met with the students and teachers from the other countries in the project – awesome people by the way. Sometime later we visited Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School. There we were welcomed by the students who guided us around and showed us the whole school. They also presented everything they had learned about each of our countries and we could see they put their hearts into it.
On the third day we went on a tour around Leicester and well I just loved it. I have to say I’m really into history and so being able to see a city so full of history made me enjoy every single second of it.
Leicester managed to impress me even more as we spent more time in it – there were so many different people and cultures living in the same city – amazing.
England has an incredibly rich culture and history, great architecture and great people and is an awesome place to visit and I recommend it to anyone with even a slight interest in... anything really.

England is one of the greatest places I’ve ever seen. I don’t actually know another country, where there is such an organization, so calm roads and friendly people. England is a big country and London is a big city, but I didn’t see any jams. People drive easy and no one is being in a rush for somewhere. Everything is by plan, everything is organized and everything has a place to be. People there are friendly, smiling and so kind.
For the little time I had I realized how big difference there is between English people and Bulgarian people. Teenagers are dressed all different and strange, but no-one actually cares. No one looks the other one and says “Oh my God, look at his shirt” or her dress, or her boots. Here this is one of the biggest problems. You can’t go out and be you, but in England you can be whoever you want and no one is going to say a word about it.
About the usual things, yes, England is clean, green and very beautiful. The buildings are magnificent and the houses are the same, but still pretty amazing.
What made me an impression were the school and the students in it. The English school motivates pupils to study and to be good at what they do. It was obvious that children were excited about school and about the project, too. They took it very seriously and organized lots of things. They are creative and hard-working.
I think all the tired and sleepless nights worth it, because the places I saw and the people I met were great! I thought I would be so tired that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it but it wasn’t this way. I enjoyed every second of my trip and I’m dying for doing it again.

I'm Dilyana and I'm from Bulgaria.I study in Secondary School ,,Ivan Vazov" and I'm in eighth grade.I took part in Comenius Young Reporters Project.I was so happy,because I would go to another country and I wanted to know more about their culture.We looked forward to our exciting experience.
We arrived at the airport in Luton near London.While we were travelling to London,we saw the beautiful countryside.Everything was green and the houses were very different from ours.London is the capital of England and it is very big city.It is the world culture center and there are many monuments.We couldn't visit all the sight in it,because the time was limited.We saw The Big Ben,The Eye,The Tower Bridge and others.We also saw Thames River.I took many photos and we knew more about the history of the city.
We spent the first day in Leicester in Sacred Heart Primary School.We met the head teacher,who told us more about the school.Then two of the children showed us all the places in the school and they told us more about their classes.Their classrooms were very big and there were children corners in them.They do not have desks like we do,but they had some big tables.The students were sitting around them.During their free time they could go dancing and they could listen to music.The youngest children were playing with sand or toys,or they learned how to do the washing up.They still were spending their childhood.In the school there was big dining room.where the children had breakfast and lunch.The student's security was very strong.The doors of the school were closed at eight o'clock.This was the prevent to enter or exit students or other people.When the lessons were finished,the doors were opened.The children were brought up to keep silence from the cradles.If anyone lifted his hand,everyone stopped talking.
On the next day we were going sightseeing in Leicester.We had a guide who told us the history of all the sights.Leicester became the town of considerable importance by Medieval times.There were many churches including The Church of St Martin.It became Leicester Cathedral in 1927.While were walking in the town,I saw that the streets were very clean and there weren't any dogs and cats.
In the evening we arrived at the hotel at about 10:30 p.m.The hotel was very clean and the rooms were very comfortable.We were very tired but it worthed.

Dear students,
My name is Delyan. I’m fifteen years old and I’m from Dobrich, a town located in northeastern Bulgaria. I study in the Dobrich Secondary School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences “Ivan Vazov”.
I was asked to write a short description of my school for you, so here it is:
The school was founded in 1923. In 1972 some major changes were made and there were two new departments – three classes majoring in Mathematics and one in Physics. Later on, the school developed other departments majoring in the following subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Geography and IT. During school year 1988/1989, the school introduced a new foundation program majoring in English. The Dobrich High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has had very notable alumni throughout the years frequently winning Physics, Chemistry and Maths competitions and being accepted in the best universities in the country.
However, the schools success is mainly based on the teachers working there. All of them are outgoing, friendly, very helpful and inspiring. They know how to make students study to good
purpose. There are many extracurricular activities for students, willing to develop their Mathematics, Physics or Programming skills.
The Dobrich High school of Mathematics and Natural Sciences is not only famous of its success in scientific competitions, but in sports ones as well. Its football, basketball and table tennis teams often win their spurs in contests around the country and abroad. The school table tennis team, for example, is one of the very best in the country and competed in the National Championship last year. The team won third prize, which was considered a major success.
The school has a big yard with a basketball court and a football pitch. The PE classes are usually held there, in one of the two gyms, or in the table tennis room. There’s a nice cafeteria just next to the school yard, where students meet for lunch.
Nowadays, there are about a thousand students, in 40 classes. Students usually have 7 periods a day. The length of each period is the one approved by the government - 40 minutes. There is a 10-minute-break after each of the periods except for the third one, when the break is 20 minutes.

My name is Nikolay Momchev.I’m 15 years old and I’m in the 9th grade of the Dobrich High School of Mathematics and Biology “Ivan Vazov”. It was originally built in 1923 as a Girls’ High School. Later it was made into a Polytechnic High School and it was finally converted into what it is now in 1972.It is one of the leading high schools in both the city and country. Ever since it started work students from it have achieved great accomplishments in regional and national science contests of all types. Sports aren’t forgotten in “Ivan Vazov” either as shown by the school’s great football, basketball, volleyball and badminton teams that have also represented the school in numerous tournaments. Many respected teachers, medics, chemical engineers, journalists, lawyers and members of other professions have graduated from it, some of which have achieved international acknowledgement.
The reason behind all of these achievements is simple – methodical and extensive preparations before each and every event that tests the knowledge and skills of us students. As a student here and a representative of my school in regional and national contests I hope to be able to show that my school and my city are among the best there is. I’ve won many regional Maths, Physics and Chemistry tournaments and I’m among the first 10 in almost all of the national contests I’ve entered. However, I don’t owe these successes to some incredible intellect I have – I owe it to the many hours spent in “Ivan Vazov”, preparing for them and to the teachers in it that have helped me in this preparation in every way they could.
This school nurtures a great deal of qualities, one might and will need later on in his/her life and they are sharpened even further for some students while preparing for and during contests – the desire to give your best and to win, the acknowledgment of defeat and continuing on nevertheless. Being able to defend your theses and reason yourself are also considered to be important things you can learn here, but there are 2 more qualities that are among the most important qualities you can receive while studying here – the ability to work effectively in teams and to be able to lead them.
The Dobrich High School of Mathematics and Biology “Ivan Vazov” is a great place to work on your talents and offers great possibilities for development of your capabilities. It is among the leading schools in Bulgaria and I am happy to be able to study in it.
THE CHESS AND OUR CHESS TEAM!
First about the game:
Chess is a two-player board game played on a chessboard, a square-checkered board with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. Each player begins the game with sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent's king, where the king is under direct attack (in check) and there is no way to remove or defend it from attack on the next move.
Chess Club "Energy 21 "
This is the chess club of our town . There are one hundred children training from the whole town. In it train several of the students of Ivan Vazov high school. Our club has many talented and knowledgeable children who wish to become Republican champion (the most prestigious title in Bulgaria.).The club has many successes. For example in 2008 four students who playing until 16 years, studying in Ivan Vazov high school took second team place in classical chess and one second place in zonal championship. Another success in team competitions is third place in 2010, which participated same players (Emil Todorov, Daniel Karadaliev, Tito Titov and Georgi Tsonev) . The team has many individual titles in various categories (8,10,12,14,16,18 and 20 years). When we go on tournaments we have fun . We have many friends from all cities. We are opponents on the chessboards but we are friends in the life. Practice is every day if you have a chance to go. On practice we have more fun and laugh than to play chess.I have many medals from tournaments and I will never be unhappy with that I am chess player.

First meeting in Puente Genil,Andalicia,Spain

We enjoyed every bit of our visit at Puente Genil,meeting our partners in the project was exciting and enriching experience. Visiting Granada and La Alhambra was a feast for our eyes and our feet:)Cordoba,a true capital of culture and history. We'll definitely return to this magnetic part of Spain. May the meetings to come, be as engaging and as stimulating.
